I'm a PhD in philosophy, and I work as assistant professor in the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academy of Sciences (you can get in touch with me during my consultation hours on Mondays, 11 am - 1 pm, room 225, Zakład Logiki i Kognitywistyki - Section of Logic and Cogntive Science). I'm currently working on my habilitation book Computational Explanation. Its Nature, Scope and Limits.
I wrote my dissertation Konstrukcja umysłu. Intuicje zdrowego rozsądku a naturalizm w filozofii umysłu Daniela Dennetta (Mind Design. Common-sense intuitions vs. naturalism in Daniel Dennett's philosophy of mind) under the supervision of Jacek Hołówka in Institute of Philosophy at Warsaw University (reviewers: prof. Witold Strawiński, Warsaw University, and doc. dr hab. Robert Piłat, PAN). I graduated in philosophy at Kolegium MISH at Warsaw University, (my thesis was Wolność jako twórczość. Znaczenie Nietzschego dla filozofii analitycznej [Freedom as Creativity. Nietzsche's significance for Analytical Philosophy], under the supervision of Jacek Hołówka; summa cum laude). That's why there is a section with philosophical papers here. I put there some links to works in progress (some of them are in English), links etc. I am also a managing editor of Przegląd Filozoficzno-Literacki (Philosophical-Literary Review). Since 2005 I am the member of the executive board of the Center for Philosophical Research, a new, independent scientific organisation that includes philosophers and scholars in humanities. In 2002, I received a scholarship from Foundation for Polish Science for young scientists. The scholarship was extended to 2003. In 2005, Fundacja na Rzecz Nauki Polskiej gave me a conference grant for coming to Copenhagen for TSC2005. In the same year, I received a weekly "Polityka" grant for young scientists - Zostańcie z nami! I do philosophy and work as a technical translator (I started my translation work in Software magazine) in IT. I localize software and documentation for major translation agencies (the first one was Studio Gambit), translate books about computing and popular science (I worked a lot with Wydawnictwo RM), philosophical books. And many other things. I speak fluently English and German, and you can talk to me in Spanish, French, Russian. I can read Greek and Latin. And some Italian. Since the time I have created the first version of this webpage, which was in 1998, I work in computer linguistics, especially in lexicography (creating dictionaries using computer methods) and in computer-aided proofreading. The first major work I did was the English-Polish IT dictionary, which is now to be found on IDG.PL website. A new, improved version was published by C.H. Beck , including a Polish-English part that was created for the first time originally for Polish (and not as a translation of another dictionary). I also work on a Polish morphosyntactic lexicon in Morfologik project, and develop the proof-reading tool LanguageTool . With Daniel Naber, we received a Gold Prize in Sun Community Innovation Program for our work on LanguageTool. I've also created a Polish thesaurus. The icon you see above my name shows how I'm involved in various open-source projects (it's clickable). In 2006, I joined European coordination network euCognition that deals with artificial cognitive systems, and in 2009, after euCognition finished its mission, I joined euCogII. |
